Mental Health

Depression will affect around 1 in 5 Australian women and 1 in 8 Australian men in their lifetime. Anxiety is more prevalent, with 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men experiencing anxiety at some stage of their lives. *Reference – Beyond Blue.

The GP’s at PMM have all trained in mental health, and many of the doctors have a special interest in this area. You do not need to feel embarrassed about opening up to your doctor, as this is a common issue they deal with. We do ask, however, that you book a double (30 minute) appointment if you would like to discuss your mental health, or organise a Mental Health Care Plan. We do not like to rush mental health consultations, and you will get more out of your appointment if you have adequate time. Our gap payment for longer consultations remains almost the same as for a standard consultation. The doctors like to get to know you as a person, and work with you to improve your mental health and wellbeing.

A Mental Health Care Plan is a plan created with your GP, that helps access Medicare rebates to see a psychologist. It is important to discuss this with your GP as it may not be appropriate for everyone and not everyone is eligible.
