Nursing Services

Our skilled and friendly nurses provide vital services for our PMM community. They have an enormous amount of experience in many areas across General Practice.

Our nurses have the following appointment types available:

  • Routine childhood immunisations -15 mins
  • Travel Immunisations (GP consult required prior to nurse appt)- 15mins
  • Meningococcal B Immunisation -30 mins
  • Wound dressings -15 mins
  • Suture removal (after procedures) – 15 mins
  • Iron Infusions – 1 hr.*
  • GP Management Plan/Team Care Arrangements (EPC) – 1hr **
  • Picato treatment (after GP consult) – 15 mins
  • 24 hour Blood Pressure Monitor (nurse to arrange 30 min appt)
  • 24 hour Holter Monitor (nurse to arrange a 30 min appt)

*Iron infusions must be ordered by one of the GPs at PMM. If you have been recommended to have an iron infusion by a GP at another clinic and would like to have it done at PMM, please make a 15 minute appointment with one of our doctors, to confirm the dose and assess your eligibility and safety for this procedure. If you have your blood test results, please bring them along to your appointment.

** GP Management Plans must be initiated by your General Practitioner. If you would like to have one performed, please check your eligibility with your doctor in your next consultation.

Costs:

Immunisations that are a part of the government schedule will incur a fee of $15 for the first family member.  A discount will apply for subsequent family member’s immunised on the same day.  If vaccines are being given after a doctor’s consultation no fee will apply e.g. following a six week baby check.

Wound dressings – $15 per nurse consult plus the cost of the dressings.

Suture removal – $15 plus the cost of any required dressings

Iron infusions – $150

GP Management Plans – bulked billed upon GP review.

Picato Treatment – $150 for product cost and no charge for application

24 Hour Blood Pressure Monitor- $100

24 Hour Holter Monitor – $50

Chriss McDonell - Senior Nurse

Education: General Registered Nurse program through Williamstown Hospital.

Nursing Career: Chriss completed her general nursing training at Williamstown Hospital and has been working in General Practice for over 35 years. Chriss leads the PMM nursing team and is widely regarded as a Practice Nurse expert. Chriss is often engaged for advice from external groups setting nursing protocols and policy.

Specialities: Chriss has seen the role of the Practice Nurse develop extensively over time and was one of the original team members at Port Melbourne Medical. Chriss has taken great pride in watching the practice develop over the past 5 years into the busy and well respected practice that it is today.

Outside Interests: Chriss is a mentor for nurses completing their immunisation courses and enjoys all aspects of general practice nursing. Chriss has worked with various institutions in developing education modules for primary healthcare nurses. Outside of PMM, Chriss is heavily involved in the St. Kevin’s College Toorak community, a passionate Demons supporter with 2 adult boys and also a wonderful a seamstress who even sews library bags for the brave 4 year olds having their immunisations.

Chriss works on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.

Laura Dillon

Education: Deakin University, Monash University, University of Ballarat

Nursing career: Laura completed her nursing degree at Deakin University. Laura has worked in the emergency department at Monash Health, Dandenong since 2001. In 2005, she completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing at Monash University. In 2008, Laura completed a Graduate Diploma in Paramedicine at the University of Ballarat. Laura is currently working part time as a Paramedic with the Victorian Ambulance Service. Laura is currently completing her Nurse Immuniser course.

Specialities: Laura has a special interest in Emergency Nursing and Paramedics, in addition to primary health and education.

Outside Interests: As a mum of two boys and a part time paramedic, Laura keeps very busy, although in her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends, running and the Vietnamese cuisine.

Laura works on a casual basis.

Sally Kesby

Education: Deakin University.

Nursing career: Monash Health as an emergency nurse before moving into Practice Nursing in 2013 to accommodate her growing interest in immunisations and preventative healthcare.

Specialities: Sally Works at Port Melbourne Medical 2 days a week, assisting with immunisations, wound care, minor procedures, iron infusions and care plans just to name a few of the many nursing responsibilities.

Outside Interests: Sally is a busy mum to 2 young girls, a wife to her childhood sweetheart and an animal lover with a dog and cat at home. She loves the beach and gets there as often as possible to make sandcastles and splash in the water with her family and friends.

Sally works on Wednesday and Thursday.

Tory Pike

Education: La Trobe University.

Nursing Career: Tory has worked at the Cabrini Coronary Care Unit and more recently surgical- Post Anaesthetic Care Recovery Nursing. Tory is thoroughly enjoying the transition into Practice Nursing and being able to use her clinical skills in a different healthcare environment.

Specialities: Since arriving at PMM Tory has commenced the Nurse Immuniser Course, establishing a growing interest in this area as well as the epidemiology of infectious disease. Due to Tory’s graduate training at Cabrini in their cardiac department, Tory also has a strong interest in cardiology.

Outside interests: Her sweet dogs, the gym and fitness and trying new places to eat and travel.

Tory works Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

Rachel Primmer

Education: La Trobe University.

Nursing career:  Rachel completed her Training at Latrobe University and her post graduate year at Alfred Health. Rachel joined us at Port Melbourne Medical in February, 2018 and has continued to work in the Alfred Emergency department on a part time basis.

Specialities: Rachel is a qualified nurse immuniser and worked in the Alfred burns unit during her graduate year. Rachel is enjoying the ongoing care that she is able to provide to patients in a general practice setting and has put her emergency experience to good use in the primary care setting.

Outside Interests: Travel, Japanese culture and Aussie Rules Football.

Rachel works on Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday.
